How to work out your real profit on Vinted

On Vinted the headline number looks generous because nothing is deducted at the point of sale. The profit still depends entirely on what you paid to get the item and how much you spend on packaging and promotion.

Set your sourcing cost honestly, including any petrol or bundle price split across items. Then add packaging — mailer bags, tape and tissue add up quickly across dozens of low-value sales.

ROI matters more than profit on Vinted. A £4 profit on a 50p charity-shop find is an excellent flip; the same £4 on a £30 item is not. The calculator shows both so you can compare items fairly.

Frequently asked questions

Does Vinted charge sellers a fee?

Vinted does not take a selling commission from sellers — the Buyer Protection fee is paid by the buyer. So the seller fee in this calculator defaults to 0%. If you use paid promotion or bumps, add that spend to 'other costs'.

Why is my Vinted profit lower than the sale price?

Because of what you paid for the item plus any postage, packaging or bump spend. Vinted's postage is usually covered by the buyer, but any packaging you buy and any item you sourced still comes out of your profit.

Do I pay tax on Vinted sales in the UK?

Selling your own used clothes usually isn't taxable, but buying to resell is trading and may be. Keep a record of every purchase and sale so the figures are ready if you ever need them, and check current HMRC guidance for your situation.

How can I track all my Vinted sales in one place?

Log each purchase in Profit Tracker and mark items sold as they go. You get running profit, margin, ROI and stock value without touching a spreadsheet.
